Practical Maintenance Tips for Hardwood Timber Flooring

Hardwood flooring provides one of the most beautiful flooring solutions to home, office or any establishment. If well-maintained, your wooden flooring especially in the house can last a long time. On the other hand, careless use of timber flooring can cost you in the long run; and thus, it is important that you heed the practical tips on maintaining wooden flooring as enumerated below.

Protection from footwear and pets

For long-lasting timber flooring protection at home, have a policy to keep footwear especially high heels, spiked soccer/golf shoes off the flooring. Furthermore, make sure to place a doormat where one can rub of dirt before entering the house. As for protecting floors from pets, keep their claws as short as possible to avoid scratching the wood.

Humidification

Humidity is one of the key conditions for mildew and moulds to grow on wooden floors and in between planks. In addition, humidity leads to the wooden panels shrinking and ultimately leaving gaping spaces on the floor. To avoid incidences of your floors showing signs of rot, get yourself a reliable humidifier. For optimal humidity levels during seasons with high temperature, keep the level of humidity at between 40% and 68%.

Waxing

Maintain the elegance of wooden floors by using either paste or liquid wax regularly. Make sure, however, that the products you use do not contain silicon, ammonia, lemon or any acidic agents. Moreover, always avoid linoleum and vinyl wax which have a tendency to wear down hardwood floors.

Cleaning

To keep dirt and mould away, always wipe off spills as soon as possible. Leaching might lead to sogginess of the timber floors. For effective cleaning, you can vacuum the floor or use soft bridled brushes and dry soft mops. Avoid the use of coarse, wet or damp pads as these will spoil the hardwood timber flooring.
